Regius Chair of Divinity – University of Oxford

The Queen has approved that Professor Graham Ward, Samuel Fergusson Professor of Philosophical Theology and Ethics and Head of the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures at the University of Manchester, be appointed Regius Professor of Divinity in the University of Oxford in succession to Professor Marilyn McCord Adams.

Graham Ward is currently Samuel Fergusson Professor of Philosophical Theology and Ethics, and Head of the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures at the University of Manchester. He was previously Professor of Contextual Theology and Ethics (1998-2009) and Senior Fellow in Religion and Gender (1997-98) at the University of Manchester. Prior to this he was successively Chaplain and Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford, part-time lecturer at the University of Birmingham, and Dean and Director of Studies for Theology at Peterhouse, Cambridge. He was ordained Deacon in 1990 and Priest in 1991.

Professor Ward holds degrees in English and Theology from the University of Cambridge. He has a considerable international reputation in the field of Christian doctrine, engaging particularly with contemporary European philosophy and critical theory.
